Caritas staff, a sewing trainer and 10 graduates at Caritas’s Drop-in-Center-Spean Chivit

On 23 November 2015, the Caritas Cambodia Health team based in Siem Reap was very happy to close its sewing training program for 2015 at its Vocational Training Center and held certificates to the successful candidates. There were 10 students who got their graduation after 10 full months of training. They are now able to sew basic clothing of all kinds and learned a few fashion styles as well!

The 10 students were very poor girls coming from very remote areas of Chikreng and Svay Leu in Sothnikum District. The 10 girls were aged from 19 to 25 and come from very poor families with little income. Now, they are much excited to be able to make sufficient income to sustain themselves and their families: brothers and sisters.
After the training, 7 students already got placement at “New style Angkor” sewing shop and will have opportunity to learn more and make good income. Two other students got a job at the “Salon Sewing shop” and one will go back home and do the sewing for her community.
The ceremony included speeches from the students, the sewing trainer, Mrs Nap Saron and the program Coordinator, Ms. Bernadette. Then, the trainers handled the certificates to each student, provided each student with a sewing machine to take at home, at 50% discount. Then, the happy team took the group photo. The students already settled their 50% contribution as they collected their savings since the beginning of the course for that purpose. They also could take their basic start up sewing set.

Health & HIV/AIDS Programs Coordinator, Ms. Bernadette expressed appreciation and congratulation to all the graduates.
The graduation ceremony has been a very joyful and happy event and they spent their last day together at the “Baray reservoir of Siem Reap” for a great picnic!
They have now great dreams and many plans!

We wish them all the best and a great future! And we thank our trainers very deeply for their commitment and hard work to equip these young girls with good skills for their future!
